Review of How to Survive a Plague (2012) by Carlos A — 01 Oct 2012
What I just experienced was my heart being broken and the pieces slowly being pieced together, restoring my hope in humanity and in a democratic world view. As painful as it was to get through, many were lost in the battle of early HIV/AIDS arrival, and it had to be seen to completely understand the fight the LGBT community and supporters had to endure in order to successfully find treatments for this epidemic.
What began as uncertainty and bleak hope, slowly rose into a revolution. It should be a commentary into reaffirming one's hope in the current climate of societies crumbling and corporations resisting their loss of power to greed.
These people did more than any government could. With sheer will-power and the determination to rise above their family/friends/lovers/peers dying around them, they joined together and became a community of scientist, doctors, and activists in a decade and a half long war against the repression of human rights. They celebrated those they lost and they marched forward.
A true reminder of the human heart and how far we could go to change the system that binds us into conditions that are outside our control.
