Review of How to Steal a Million (1966) by Sam R — 05 Sep 2009
If you feel like you've seen "Charade" too many times, well, you're pretty much just wrong, there's no such thing. But if you insist, this is worth checking out too. A nifty premise that takes just a little too long to get moving, but of course Hepburn is plenty entertaining here even at the film's slowest moments.
I was going to make some crack about the costumes being far more stylish than the direction, but just because it's not showy doesn't mean it's not effective. There's something to be said for a movie that can make a slow escape from a locked supply closet into such a lengthy and thrilling scene.
And the movie is full of great moments of underplayed humor, from Peter O'Toole spitting out chalk to Hepburn attempting to go incognito by showing up to dinner in a black lace blindfold.
