Review of How to Steal a Million (1966) by Sergel C — 17 Aug 2011
Great movie! An art forger (Griffith) that sells his work for loads of money finally creates the perfect masterpiece : the Venus statue. But his strong- willed daughter (Hepburn) knows its not right, so she hires a suave cat burglar (O'Toole) to help her steal Venus from its new home-- a high security art museum via France.
"How to Steal a Million" was one of the great William Wyler's last films. Though not his best, I still liked it anyways. To start off with, this movie has both legendary icons Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole (in a lesser role than "Lawrence of Arabia") and they both do an absolutely fantastic job! Both of the characters they play are energetic and fun (something they did not always do), and the entertainment level is certainly high.
Though not Oscar- worthy, their chemistry is a whole lot better than Hep and George Peppard in "Breakfast at Tiffany's". While Hep and Pep are goofing off, Audrey and Peter are out robbing a museum.
What also makes this such a good watch is the superb Deluxe Technicolor. While some movies look old just because of the quality, this movie looks about 20 years younger. William Wyler may have not put this in the league of "Roman Holiday", it's still a fun find.
