Review of How to Make Money Selling Drugs (2012) by Lauren D — 05 Jul 2013
Drugs are everywhere so this is a really interesting doc on the multiple levels of selling in the drug trade. For a moment you feel like you're at a seminar watching an introductory film on Getting into the Drug Trade. Along the way the film touches on addiction, imprisonment & the racist history behind the war on drugs that continues today because it adds so much money to the federal budget.
Well known people like 50 cent, Susan Saradon & Eminem appear in the doc along with ex-dealers, ex-law enforcement & lawyers for a well-rounded look at the billion-dollar industry.
What's interesting is the sympathetic position the film takes on the dealers and "non-violent" addicts. The govt and law enforcement are viewed unfavorably in this film. There's very little discussion on why people even feel they need drugs to get caught up in such a mess. The film does remind us that alcohol is an incredible gateway drug which we don't often realize.
I guarantee you'll learn something you didn't know watching this film and that's why I really liked it.
