Review of How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008) by Jason W — 08 May 2010
Just the mere title appeals to me. I like the irony in giving the movie a title that suggests a conscious intent to lose friends and alienate people when that is what everyone (mostly) seeks to avoid. Of course, we should be kind to each other and respect one another, but this forced pleasing someone because they are the "wonder" or star of the moment just to catch some glitter is revolting - also because of the power that lies therein.
I hope to stay clear of those power plays and keep my right to say no and be critical. I hate to think what happens to integrity and authenticity if we aren't free to say no and speak our mind. Our differences are what challenges us and give life some spice.
Philosophy done - next movie on, while waiting for the year to be over....
