Review of How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008) by The D — 28 Apr 2010
Memo to Toby Young; if you are writing a comedy it needs to be funny & this is not. Sure the story is ok if very predictable.
You can tell he has written this from his own experience as the guy who never got asked to the party. Its very bitter & not at all satirical. After slagging off a former inspiration's current magazine he is offered a job with said magazine. He then becomes part of the "In-crowd" & he starts to question what he should be doing. There's a couple of farce like incidents & then of course it leads to its predictable hollywood ending.
This was a vehicle for the very talented Simon Pegg to boost his profile in the US pure & simple . I hope he gets offered better in the future but any more like this & he wont.
Another point to Mr Young, not a good idea to slag off Tarantino when this is the best you can muster, not very professional or dignified.
