Review of How to Be Single (2016) by Jon C — 21 Feb 2016
Director Christian Ditter tells a modern, contemporary story about what being single is actually all about.
Do we owe it to ourselves to be with someone? is it our duty to fill that empty void in our lives with someone?
Most of us have a choice in whether or not we want to be on our own before settling down, giving up our freedom or realizing that in a second all of it is fundamentally changed.
I absolutely love this cast: Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Alison Brie, and Leslie Mann are empowering females on a journey of self-discovery.
The trailer is smart enough not to show you one big element that sets Alice on her long road to finding love; it's hard being single for everyone trying to start a relationship or just recently getting out of one.
Alice along with her new friend, Robin try to date as many people as well as figuring out how to still be alone without any complications involved.
Also going on is Alice's sister, Meg is coping with the fact that even though she's single deep down she wants to have a child of her own without any of the baggage.
The fourth woman, Lucy has had a bad history of picking the wrong guys that don't stick around enough so she tries her hardest to put herself out there while still not wanting to worry about long-term.
The movie has a lot of good laughs but shockingly a lot of heavy moments, too.
Formula aside the movie does do its job by looking at and breaking down modern relationships about what works, what doesn't, or if everyone is better off not dealing with them in the first place.
Desperately finding the one is enough to make anyone lose their minds but again it may take more time.
Being single is both good and bad for everyone.
As long as the happiness is where it counts that's all that matters.
