As the given genre goes, How to be Single is a run of the mill modern romantic comedy that will no doubt be criticized and condemned in your local broadsheet by drama loving critics who usually won't give the time of day to a sweet romantic comedy or silly popcorn action flick etc.

Yes, there was some issues here, specifically the lack of character development with everyone who isn't Dakota Johnson. The most obvious example of this is Alison Bries Character Lucy, whose story arc seemed to going somewhere semi interesting until.

..well, it didn't. However aside some clear criticisms, there was also plenty to make you smile and also to encourage the odd laugh even. In particular, Leslie Mann's character Meg was instantly likable in her role as a independent, non relationship, loner type who longs to be a mother who meets potential love interest Ken (Jake Lacy) who slowly thaws her icy emotional exterior.

Dakota Johnson puts in a decent, if not slightly forgettable shift as the protagonist Alice who struggles to find a comfortable medium between being single and being in a relationship, so much so that at one point she has to deal 3 potential male suitors showing up to her birthday party.

Personally, this movie helped her regain a little of credibility and likability in my mind, after the 50 shades fiasco. Elsewhere, Rebel Wilson plays an extended version of herself. For those looking for a rom com/nice chilled out popcorn flick with a stellar soundtrack.

.this is worth the admission fee.
