Review of How to Be Single (2016) by Orlando O — 25 Jun 2016
How to Be Single has a fun cast ensemble and some decent amount humor with the script. Sadly, the romantic comedy film does lose itself with its thin plot, making it more of a rom com about several characters and them intertwining with each other. The plot follows Alice (Dakota Johnson) taking a break from her college boyfriend Josh (Nicholas Braun), and wants to self discover herself by moving to New York. She moves in with her sister Meg (Leslie Mann), who refuses to have a boyfriend or wanting children. Alice meets her coworker Robin (Rebel Wilson), a party hard woman, who enjoys one night stands and having fun. Then, there is Tom (Anders Holm), their local bartender, lives a bachelor life, and has a game plan for his hook ups. He meets Lucy (Alison Brie), who sits in his bar for the free wifi, as she looks in dating websites to find a boyfriend.
The film does have a fun variety cast and some decent amount of humor.
