Review of How to Be Single (2016) by Damian A — 25 Jun 2016
What is it like to be single, honestly, I don't really know because I haven't been in a very long time, but what I do remember about it, is that it was nothing like this, at least not at that time in my life.
Our main character Alice, is in a seems to be happy relationship, only to break it off so that she can experience what it's like to be single and to find out who she is. And when she is finished with that, she wants to go back to her boyfriend, but much to her dismay, he has found someone else.
..SHOCKER....she is then forced to stay single whether she wants to be or not, all the while hooking up with pretty much every guy she meets. Now I'm sure that this is not at all how it goes in real life, but this is how Hollywood views it.
As for the movie itself, it has it's funny moments, unfortunately Rebel Wilson, who can be funny, is given most of the funny lines, but I think she's trying a little too hard because most of them don't work.
Dakota Johnson is likable here, not sure if her character is different here than in 50 Shades of Grey because I didn't see that, but I do know that she wears more clothes in this one, and the story makes you care about her even if you don't agree with what she does.
Alison Brie is also likable here, as is Leslie Mann, but most of the male characters are either over playing or under playing what they are supposed to be doing. Overall it is worth a watch, but it's not over the top hilarious, but not quite sure if it was supposed to be either.
MILD RECOMMENDATION.
