While the title implies that the audience is going to learn how to be single, what they really learn is how to be independent. But whether it's to be single or independent, there's no real message as to why it's important to be either of those things.

What's the point? The movie makes no point other than to be entertaining, but it isn't, really. Wilson is the somewhat saving grace alongside Mann, but neither of their characters can save the movie from Johnson.

Johnson role in the film is to be an insecure fresh out of college newbie to life.
