Review of How to Be Single (2016) by April F — 02 Dec 2016
This was the perfect movie for my transition from sweet loving girlfriend to PMSing fire-breathing dragon and while my boyfriend hid in his cave under a few mountains of covers claiming "sickness", I was able to stem the flood of anger that comes with, well, the flood.
Dakota Johnson's consistent flatness actually worked in this role as she embodied a "lost" character who was hard to read since she didn't quite understand herself yet. Rebel Wilson continued her type-cast as obnoxious fun-loving morally-questionable sidekick and Leslie Mann IMO, always delivers.
And "Ders" was a lovable misguided anti-hero..I do wish that Alison Brie's storyline as more organic, but while the story sometimes wavered & felt forced, the actors were strong enough to make it worth watching.
I recommend pairing with an oaky merlot & triple fudge ben & jerry's and a bell so your boyfriend, mother, roommate, neighbor, dog, butler, etc can provide extra whipped cream at a moment's notice.
