Review of How the West Was Won (1962) by Luis G — 12 Feb 2009
It wanted to be a sprawling Western epic, and was. Some really great performances, and some really interesting casting choices as well (even though no one in their right mind would believe Linus Rawlings was 28 years old since Jimmy Stewart was in his fifties by then).
Some segments were clearly better than others, such as Ford's segment about the Civil War. Some of the segments just went on too long, as well. I did enjoy how the themes of each segment mirrored one another, however. Fantastic scope for a film that was carried out quite well. Definitely worth seeing, for the amazing cast list alone.
