I've never felt like Dr. Seuss books can be effectively adapted into movies, and I really don't see the necessity in giving the Grinch a backstory, but I guess they needed to stretch out the source material into a full length film.
Jim Carrey obviously revels in playing such a quirky creature, and he's the saving grace of the movie. While it doesn't stand up to some of the other family friendly Christmas classics, it's still worth checking out.
..even if it's just to hear Anthony Hopkins as the narrator.
