Review of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) by Sam E — 16 Apr 2013

I used to love Ron Howard. His opus, Apollo 13, is one of my favorite historical dramas, and honestly I think many of us were excited for this film. However, when it finally did come out...terrifying. Granted, Jim Carrey seems to have an okay performance but I think it was mostly Mr.

Howard who stole Christmas from him. He forces in rather disgusting humor such as the...let's say..."dog-kissing" scene, popular culture jokes that are always unfunny, in fact genuinely SCARY Whos and the fact that they are already corrupt, whereas in the original book and cartoon they are the ones who subconsciously teach the Grinch about the true spirit of Christmas, and the message is ruined.

It seems like Carrey was just too lenient and followed Howard's ever command in his performance, and that's what killed the movie, I think.
