Review of How She Move (2008) by Permadi, S — 03 Mar 2010
"How She Move" continues the glut of urban dance flicks and film titles that are grammatically incorrect, and while it's no better than the others it seems to think it is. Just because this was released under Paramount's indie label doesn't make it better.
I must admit that the dancing is completely mesmerizing, but as proved by "You Got Served" and "Stomp the Yard", it takes more than that to make a movie. Newcomer Rutina Wesley is a bright new face with plenty of talent and charisma, and she carries the film.
The rest of the cast is great when they're on the stage, but emoting isn't their strong suit. See the documentary "Rize" because the dancing is great and you don't have to wade through a plot.
This movie is far too concerned with being hip and soundtrack sales to worry about coming up with an original story.
