Review of How I Live Now (2013) by Gavin S — 04 Oct 2013
'How I Live Now' is a brilliant film that follows a teenage American girl who has arrived to stay with her English cousins in the countryside shortly before a nuclear bomb explodes in London. We don't know the political context in which the event takes place but we see it's consequences in the civil disorder and martial law that follows.
The film is realistic and surrealistic at the same time evoking not only a 'near future' but also echoes of the 1940's and 50's. The acting of the young cast is flawless. Harrowing, intense, beautiful and memorable are the adjectives that spring to mind about this film.
