Review of How I Live Now (2013) by Holly Y — 06 Mar 2014
Very weak writing, none of the characters feel real or fully developed. The first developments of the nuclear war are really effective, but everything becomes too vague for its own good. Daisy isn't interesting, especially not her romance with Edmund, which is paper thin.
There's some weird things in the movie that don't make any sense, but apparently they were trying to echo the books. Like Daisy's voice in her head is apparently her way of dealing with anorexia.
I only know that from Wikipedia, because the film did a horrible job of explaining what that was about. And I don't know what that whole animal-whisperer thing Edmund has is about; stuff that was in the book that have should have been excised from the movie because none of it goes anywhere.
