Review of How I Live Now (2013) by Thomas W — 02 Jul 2014
The 2004 YA novel 'How I Live Now' has been brought to the big screen nearly a decade after its first public release and it stars Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) as Daisy, an American teenager who has been sent to live with unknown relatives in the UK.
Daisy and her cousins soon find themselves living alone as her Aunt Penn (Anna Chancellor - Four Weddings & a Funeral) is sent to Oslo where she will be needed to oversee treaty after treaty in the upcoming months as WWIII has broken out around them.
Daisy and her older cousin, Eddie (George McKay - Peter Pan) begin a relationship. The film carries on much longer than it needs to do and I believe its direction could be more solid as it is focusing nearly too intently upon Daisy.
It is difficult to become invested in these people because they do so little caring to begin with.
