Review of How I Live Now (2013) by Joan O — 27 Aug 2014
Utterly devastating, "How I Live Now" is a shocking and downright disturbing vision of war and impending doom with a romantic flourish. Quite possibly the most mature and gritty young adult based films I've seen in a while, this nightmarish experience is no easy ride, but it's a ride that must be taken.
This terrifyingly beautiful look at war and loss is marinated in melancholy and horror, delivering it's cold and bitter mood successfully. Saoirse Ronan is marvelous, captivating and powerful as always.
