...stylish and ambitious but it mostly benefits from its characters. The main character's journey of survival, soul-searching and longing is hugely compelling and quite moving. The transformation is evident and triumphantly beautiful.

Thanks to the material's whirlpool of conflicts and Saoirse Ronan's ever-improving portrayal.
