Review of How Green Was My Valley (1941) by Stephen E — 17 Apr 2012
I'd like to say that "How Green Was My Valley" was given the short end of the stick when it won the Best Picture Oscar in 1941 over "Citizen Kane" and that its poor reputation is entirely undeserved, but I'd be lying.
The film is overly sentimental, sappy, uneven, and a real bore of a motion picture. From a critic's standpoint, it's a visual and technical feat, but as a member of the audience, I wasn't entertained for a second.
