Review of How Do You Know (2010) by Meya B — 07 May 2011
How did I know this movie was going to suck? I watched the trailer.
Chances are if the trailer sucks, the movie probably will to.
How do you know is directed by James L. Brooks, who made the magnificent As Good As It Gets and aside from helping to produce The Simpsons early on, was about as good as his career got. Some people might slide Terms of Endearment or Broadcast News in there, but I don't. I can say though that this is by far the worst Brooks has been and I really hope he either bounces back or just retires to save himself further embarrassment.
This is basically a movie about people who don't know. Selfish people, people who are in love with other people who are already in relationships (Hollywood loves this in its stories) people who are being indicted. All of them not knowing something and it's all very maddening. This should've been called How Do You NOT Know...Anything?
These love triangle romcoms are all the same stupid story told with slighter and slighter variations by popular, good looking movie stars who spend too much time trying to be cute and loveable and too little time acting.
Congratulations Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, this is the most annoying performance of your career, I hope the pay was worth it.
