Review of How Do You Know (2010) by Terri A — 11 Sep 2011
A thoughtful and well written dialog is the high note but the characters are not well grounded to the premise of this movie. Rudd and Nicholson never succeed selling father and son or billionaire investment bankers or Witherspoon an 10 year veteran Olympic softball player. Wilson while convincing as self-absorbed really never sells pro baseball player.
Placing these characters at such dizzying heights really forces the audience lens even further from making connections with the characters. Rudd under investigation trades his multi-million dollar condo for a modest appartment with a beautiful view and your supposed to feel sorry for him.
Rudd is cast in an typical Albert Brooks role (ie defending your life-1991), but never fully develops the level of over thinking & self-deprecating frustration.
