Review of How Do You Know (2010) by Shiela E — 26 Oct 2011
How Do You Know is a movie that falls into a love triangle cliche but at the same time NOT.
Take Owen Wilson's character for example, he's a narcissistic baseball player who finds himself in Love with Witherspoon's character for the 1st time in his life. I can already tell how normal writers will build such a character with over the top jokes. However, Brooks created the wonderful dialogs for Wilson that I can't help it but love his character. Nothing is over the top in this character yet I still find myself laughing at the things he says and does.
In this movie, Brooks does what he does best, which is giving the plainest conversation another "layer". After watching each scene I just feel helplessly comfortable with each character. The tone of the film is positive without shuffling the sunshine down my throat. Each dialog is so sharp and perfect!
Each characters in the story has interactions with each other and creates a lot of good chemistry.
One last comment is that I never thought I have like Witherspoon's acting style till I see her in HDYK. She's natural, comfortable and just right for her character.
