Review of How Do You Know (2010) by Jason W — 15 Apr 2011
James L. Brooks latest film focuses on the life of events in life that can change the balance dramatically. Rudd plays George, an investor who is being indicted by the feds. Witherspoon plays a softball player past her prime trying to hold it all together.
Wilson plays the rich, professional athlete who just doesn't get it. And Nicholson plays George's father (no where near Jerry Stiller who was far better at being a George's father.) They all are in the depths of despair and this is where the relationships blossom.
That is about all that blossoms however. We see no signs of life on an intelligent script, or interesting characters. This is one of Jack's worst roles in some time actually. The film is a boorish look into the realms of how people react to adversity, how good can still be found in our feeble moments and the things we do for others.
Misses the mark.
