They couldn't get Kurt Russell to do it. After this film came out, Goldie's career couldn't get off the ground if you strapped it to a 747. She wasn't doing enough drugs to make this interesting, and no viewer could do so either.
Frank Oz really ought to be doing something more creative than trying to please the soccer-mom crowd with this kind of thing.
