Review of Housebound (2014) by Julie F — 12 Jan 2016
This was a pretty crazy thriller-horror-comedy that my buddy turned me onto. I doubt many folks have seen it outside of New Zealand - maybe it did a short festival and theatrical run in the US? Not totally sure, but it's definitely worth your time - a really really good foreign film that puts a huge amount of US horror to shame.
The premise - girl gets arrested and put to house-arrest in her childhood home, which is and has been "haunted." Really really interested concept for a bottle film and it very carefully expands on this to include some really cool twists and turns.
The really nice touch was an almost Edgar Wright-esque humor that did a good job of showing when it mattered and allowing the tense moments to really breathe and follow through to move the plot forward.
There's some nice jumps and suspense throughout, definitely see this puppy. It's on Netflix!
