Review of Housebound (2000) by Pablo G — 18 Dec 2014
Where is the horror? Where is the tension? Where is the originality? Where are the jokes? Where are the characters? Where is the balance? Where is the commentary? Where is the irony? Where is the freshness and coolness it so much deserves as the movie it promotes itself as? Maybe it has something to do with not being from New Zeland, but the movie simply had some of the worse balance I have ever seen in a horror comedy, as it it is plagued with clichés that are barely parodied, and it has too much of a meciocre horror ambience to be considered funny or terryfying in the slightest.
It is neither bizzarre and lively enough to be considered a horror comedy, and it neither commits itself to the horror elements enough to make it worth watching for the scares. The story is dumb and clichéd, the characters are poorly presented, developed, and acted, and the development is filled with horror and comedy clichés that have grown obscenely old for a 2014 audience.
Also, barely any true or well presented gore, too many predictable jumpscares, and ultimately neither a succesful parody or mockery of other horror films, but more like a joke of what it tries to achieve.
