Review of House Party (1990) by Inspired R — 11 Jan 2011
House party, ok so this movie has a lot of personality to it, most obviously would be the hair of kid, do you think you could take someone with ahir like that seirously? probably not but since its a comedy it fits the movie well.
the film itself has lots zaney characters all of who have their own crazy personality traits and catch frazes. there is a lot wrong with this movie though. one would be that the three antagonists, although vbery important to the flow of the film, have one member whose voice is just downright annoying and wayyyyy too over the top.
and aaswell the movie seems to want to teach you lessons the whole time like the viewers are all children by singling out the only underage drinker at the party as being an outcast. everyone is hating on the guy whose getting waisted and everyone is having a nice sober party.
I dont know about you guys but it seemed kind of weird to me how everyone was dancing at the party the whole time, ive been to dance partys but they didt quite look like that, and two guys can look at each other and out of noweher bust out some dance routine like they practise it everyday or something.
its weird how the director seemed to aim the movie towards cidlren but then goes and uses profanity and deals with a lot of sexual material. it seems like he was confused at who he was making the movie for.
on a good note however the movie contains a massive amount of black culture of that era. the slang, clothing, hair style, music, and settings are all reminicent of old times which is actually this movies most succesfull accomplishment and for that it is more than mildly entertaining.
The firsst house party in the quadtrilogy is definatly recommendable despite its flaws!
