Review of House on Haunted Hill (1999) by Lace — 23 May 2009
After a pretty cool prolouge, this loose re-make of the better Vincent Price original seems content to rest on it's laurels and deliver a gore-by-the-numbers flick. Of all the 'DarkCastle" produced horror films this is the one that I openly detest the least. Sure it's playing to the lowest common denominator horror fan and yes Chris Kattan shouldn't be in another movie EVER. But at the same time, the special effects are pretty well done and I'd rather watch this then suffer through "Ghost Ship" or "Thirteen Ghosts" again.
My Grade: C-.
DVD Extras: Commentary by W Malone; Tale of two houses featurette; 3 Deleted Scenes; Theatrical Trailers for both versions.
DVD-Rom: Escape from the House game; 2 Essays; and website.
Eye Candy: an extra ghost or three get topless.
