Review of House on Haunted Hill (1999) by Murder C — 11 Sep 2012
While it is inconsistent and the plot doesnt really make any sense; seeing how the people invited to stay at the house have no idea whats goin on yet they basically show up anyway cause they are bored and desperate.
And once they find out they can win a lot of money by simply staying alive, they have a laugh like its a joke, yet obviously its not cause its a real millionaire and thats the focus of the party. Where it gets confusing and ironically fatal is where people actually start dying when the house is alive and conjuring spirits to kill them.
Makes you wonder if they would of died anyways if the house wasnt haunted? Or was the whole "last alive wins" kinda like tag where you get marked and then you are out of the game. Never explains if they was actually goin to be trying to survive regardless of the evil in the house, which is quite a bit confusing and just lazy.
Still one of my favorite nostalgia films though, used to love watching this as a kid and it scared me just in the opening credits scene. Could be much more scarier and consistent, not a lot of really cool things happening, but a good foundation for excellent potential, if put more thought into.
