Review of House on Haunted Hill (1999) by Luc L — 07 Nov 2012
Entertaining, trashy remake of the very innocent William Castle movie from 1958. But this one actually has more plot and a few good chills. It is the surprisingly strong cast keeps this one highly watchable.
Geoffery Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Ali Larter and Chris Kattan in a surprisingly good straight part for this comedian are great in this one. Peter Gallagher, Jeffery Combs and Bridgette Wilson are also in supporting roles as well.
Stylishly directed by William Malone (Feardotcom) brings some imaginative scares (Some of it, it is a tribute to "Jacob's Latter"). It has good production designs and good Make-Up effects by KNB.
It loses some of its effectiveness towards the end with the CGI ghosts. In the end, "House of the Haunted Hill" is a much more entertaining and better movie than the other ghost movie from 1999 "The Haunting".
Watch all through the credits, if you want to see something a little extra.
