Review of House on Haunted Hill (1959) by Romie F — 31 Oct 2007
The incomparable Vincent Price invites seven people to spend a night locked in a haunted house, with the offer of $10,000 if they survive until morning. Making things more interesting, his gold-digging wife wants to murder him, he's handed out pistols as party favours, and the wine cellar has a hidden vat of acid under the floorboards.
All you need to know: Vincent Price, haunted house, vat of acid!
Oh, and unlike the remake from the late '90s, it is never made explicit whether the house is actually haunted. Moral of the story: CGI ghosts ain't that scary. Nor, for that matter, are 99.9% of CGI anything.
