Review of House on Haunted Hill (1959) by Thomas P — 14 Oct 2010
"They'll soon come for me... and then... They'll come after you!".
A millionaire and his plotting wife throw a party, inviting five guests with nothing in common other than needing money. $10,000 goes to each of them if they spend the night (or $50,000 for one person) in a large house. The catch: the house is full of dark spirits and deception.
This one.... oh how to describe it.. Terrible perhaps? But that's what makes it fun. The acting was decent and there were some decent lines thrown in there along with really terrible ones. The special effects were obviously terrible even for 50s standards. And lord can Carolyn Craig's contant screaming be the first to die. Overall... well... it can't be any worse than the remake. Terrible yet camp fun.
Do see it, please do. You will understand every meaning to why they put the terror in terrible.
