Review of House on Haunted Hill (1959) by Sean D — 21 Oct 2013
Okay, I'm missing something. I think I'm missing the part where this is just a good ol' fashion spook story with some lock em in the house, see who goes crazy, let the ghosts finish them ploys.
This is a campy, Price-centered, ghost fest that did nothing for me. Nothing at all! There are some scares and frights and a lot of screaming and the plot underneath the plot is cool but then the movie ENDS.
What? My first reaction was did they run out of money. We didn't even make it to the next morning. What happens? I still want to know! All of the apparitions became just thrills at a haunted house instead of being elevated by storytelling in a complete film.
Things were totally left unpaid off. I just felt cheated and frustrated because this is supposed to be a great horror classic and I was expecting exactly that. Whatever, again, I guess I'm missing something.
