Review of House of Wax (1953) by Jared F — 27 Oct 2007
I had the opportunity the other week to see this film in 3D. Sadly, I had to pass it up. But to make up for that, I just rented the DVD.
This would have been better serviced by 3D because it's far too campy and absurd to be taken seriously. The color cinematography is gorgeous and vibrant, but the silly script, the endless implausibilities, and Carolyn Jones' unbearably grating performance all really detract here.
See it for Vincent Price--even when he's not at his best (here for instance), he's still so damned charming.
A good vintage time-killer but not much else.
