Review of House of the Rising Sun (2011) by The D — 06 Sep 2011
Now this is the problem with putting wrestlers in lead roles. You can turn a potentially reasonable 90 minutes kiss kiss bang bang thriller into a dire farce.
The basic plot sees Ray(Bautista) being fitted up by Tony(Purcell) for a heist at the club he runs security for. The heist also saw the club's boss' son killed. A former cop who spent time inside for previously being a corrupt police officer, Ray is tasked with finding those responsible but as he does so it seems more & more that the fingers are pointing at him by both police & gang bosses.
Now Dominic Purcell would have been much better in the lead here & the back up is from a few quite adept at this sort of thing, Smart as the former lover, Fairbrass as the man charged with keeping an eye on Ray but also lending him a few handy hints & Trejo as the mob boss who owns the club.
Alas the script is predictably terrible & it seems in every fight scene Ray encounters he takes a beating from guys he could squash with one hand.
As for the conclusion I think they just lost interest & didn't really finish writing it.
