Review of House of the Dead (2003) by Grëg W — 18 Apr 2008
I find it intensely amusing that people rate this film so low. Have they not seen what real B-movie horror films are about? Have they really never seen your greats from the Troma era, and realized that they are by far 'worse'.
But you can still love them despite their flaws. I can safely say that House of the Dead is not great. It has some problems, including the sound-track in parts, and some of the acting which was a bit odd, and most of all, the sound was a bit poorly mixed.
But for a low-budget horror made outside of Hollywood, this thing is a modern-day masterp-piece. There are some seriously clever shots, and some perfectly good special effects and make-up. I've seen a lot worse, and will no doubt continue to see a lot worse and enjoy them, but this was good action-packed entertainment with some really laughable moments, as well as some seriously clever and intelligent parts.
Overall, the flaws do not outweigh the fun that can be had. More people might realize that if they could drop this bullshit Uwe Boll hate-campaign.
