Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by Miika V — 21 Mar 2008
A story about cultural confrontations I guess. A middle aged woman has never got past his teenage years so she still wears ripped denim shorts and acts irresponsibly. It's common that these kind of persons do get in to lot of troubles and weird situations.
A real social hazard. This is a classic case of incapableness to cope with disappointment which leads to selfishness, overreaction and ultimately of course to manipulation and stupidity. Combine this human wreck plus a dumb cop and a proud Muslim man who tries to climb back up the social ladder in a foreign country and you got a mess.
Manages to be realistic and juicy at the same time. Would perhaps work better as a novel.
