Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by Vincent L — 01 Oct 2008
This movie is so amazing. The story seems weak but I think that is only when compared with the film's ability to make you have such strong feelings about the characters - I would pay money to slowly beat the deputy to death, no joke.
It was cool seeing Shohreh Aghdashloo and Jonathan Ahdout in a mother-son situation again (I saw the fourth season of 24 before this, I can't believe this was his first acting job ever!) but Ben Kingsley stole the show with possibly one of the best performances ever.
The movie started quite slowly but it definitely gets better and better as it goes on. A big problem I had with this movie was the music. Well, I liked the actual music, but I can't believe James Horner got away with using EXACTLY the same themes from his 'A Beautiful Mind' score and even though I love that score, I definitely lost my respect for him after hearing this work of his.
