Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by James H — 18 Oct 2008
Probably a good book. Overall, frustrating as a movie because it's so focused on making you see/feel its miserable point, you hate all the characters and can't, I don't know, participate in the movie to the extent that it expects you to.
I like complexity dislike bubblegum happy-ending stuff, but this film didn't seem to earn the right to the frustration it puts you through. Notable for its high demands, good acting, visual quality, but fell short on its promises.
