Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by Phil H — 27 Feb 2010
I was seriously and deeply bothered by the affair Jennifer Connelly's character was having with the cop, and so so satisfied when that pig (the cop) finally got put in jail.
My sense of poetic justice was a bit bothered by this film BUT it's probably more realistic than my sense of poetic justice. These are the morals I learned or had reinforced from this film.
1)Cops suck.
2)Bureaucrats suck.
3)Having an affair is a horrible idea and benefits no one, if you are having problems with your marriage you should try everything to solve them, getting a divorce is a last resort not a first one that you run to at the first sign of trouble or discontent.
4)Cops suck.
5)When you find out that you have done something unjust, whether or not you intended to it is likely in your best interest and everyone else's to try and resolve the conflict.
6)Everyone should have a gun in their house.
7)Never invite a pig (cop) into your house ever no matter what, only ever allow the pigs into your house if they have a warrant and you have no choice.
8)Cheaters never prosper.
9)Communication, even when it's hard to say, can save lives and solve problems before they start.
10)Cops suck.
I think Connelly's character suffered the most at the end of the film, still unsatisfied and now with a guilty conciseness she lost everything because she was having an affair, did not communicate her problems to the right people who could have helped her (her mother) and resorted to alchol and suicide for her answers.
