Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by Jon C — 22 Dec 2012
For 2003:
I thought this was just an indie flick that didn't get a lot of noteriety but when I finally watched it man was I proven wrong.
Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley's performances are very heartbreaking and raw.
The plot takes an ordinary idea and turns it into an emotional roller coaster.
Connelly lives in a house that her father worked to his bones to keep but one day the house is up for sale by a new family.
She refuses to sell it because of the sentimental value she has for it but is forced to move anyways.
A friend is found in Eldard and she struggles to be happy living elsewhere.
Kingsley's family becomes automatically accustomed to the house and when they consistently run into her knowing how she feels they start to form an unusual bond.
It's strange because she befriends them even though they are living in her home.
I smiled, I cried and I totally sympathized with these people.
They come from different places and merge with one another on an emotional level.
'House of Sand and Fog' is a unique tragedy that covers living at home, leaving it and desperately trying to making a new one.
