Review of House of Games (1987) by Larry D — 02 Jul 2007
David Mamet's first well-received film, Ebert said it's one of the greatest movies ever, it should have been good right? wrong. It was ok, but the eighties was not a great decade for films and this film had too much eighties sexy sax solos for me to enjoy.
the acting was over the top, the dialogue (though mamet is great with dialogue usually like in "Glen Gary...") sounds too theatrical and thus phony. it was an ok movie but it was a let down.
