Review of House of Games (1987) by Michael P — 06 Mar 2015
The direction is remarkably assured for it being Mamet's first effort, he uses empty space really well and there is a distinct style that recalls noir but it never becomes overbearing. As for the screenplay and the way he directs actors .
. . well its very much a question of taste. I think that when he writes and directs his own material it works great, but it isn't something I'd want everyone to indulge in.
