Review of House of Flying Daggers (2004) by Josh S — 19 Mar 2012
While visually splendid, the film spends the first hour or so dumping predictable plot twist after predictable plot twist upon the viewer. The purpose is to play into our expectations, and then the real surprise comes at about 40 mins left in the film, but by this point we are already so exhausted from the first hour that we no longer care.
The first hour also serves as just an excuse of going from point A to point B for the sake of having a new battle at each location. The film is really repetitive and bores you into a lull. The romance also fails to make you care making the final battle another complete bore.
