Following the success of Hero, House of Flying Daggers received mainstream release, and ultimately comes up short of living up to its expectations. Like most Chinese films, it is visually stunning, but doesn't contain much substance.
The story fails to be compelling at any point of the film, and while it tries to come across as an epic tragedy, it just ends up being depressing and forgettable. See this film for its visuals and fight choreography, but don't expect much else.
