Review of House of Flying Daggers (2004) by Tor M — 05 Oct 2012
A film with color-useage like I've never seen before. "The Fall" it's the only film near it as I know.
It made me wanna see "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" again after seeing it as an uninterested 14 year old back in the days. It also made me wanna play around with bamboo.
Visually it's fantastic in every way. Panorama landscapes, camera-usage and effects crreates so many incredible scenes. The story is not bad either, but maybe a bit mythical and flashy. I can't rate it on dialogue but the acting seem passionate and good by me. Logic problems kills a bit of the fun, but it's fitting to such an epic tale - it's unrealistic, but it can get away with it - big time! People hate the snow-thing near the end, but I found especially this scene poetic and very powerful.
It felt a bit long, but all in all it's a lovely, dramatic, romantic, action-piece that I will remember for it's beauty more than it's story. This is deserted love in an explotion of colors.
