Review of House of Flying Daggers (2004) by Frances H — 18 Jun 2013
Although Crouching Tiger was a movie with a new style of martial arts, this movie was far more than fight choreography--a stunningly beautiful film in every sense of the word with breathtakingly lovely visual imagery, excellent dramatic acting, and a love story literally to die for.
Flying daggers had it all! In fact, the martial arts sequences almost distracted from the overall effect of the movie here. The dance in the Peony Pavilion was wonderful and the final fight scene was the most effective because it had few flying tricks and was just a vehement battle between two men who loved the same woman, and therefore seemed less artificial.
A gorgeous film all around a new favorite for me.
